GIRLS SECTIONAL RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

We're at the point in the season when coaches, athletes and fans begin looking forward to the IHSAA tournament--the Lady Tigers will hit the water for the Fishers Sectional prelims just 10 DAYS from now.

I have taken the information available from several sources (some coaches STILL don't report their results) to compile a ranking of the best efforts in the Fishers Sectional field so far this season. The list only includes the top performance in each event for each school--it does NOT include the 2nd best, 3rd, etc. from the teams. That's why you'll only see one entrant per event.

Fishers is the defending champion--they beat crosstown rival Hamilton Southeastern by 100 points to capture the 2011 title, with Yorktown a distant third. The FHS Tigers lost some firepower to graduation, but are still the most talented (and deepest) team in the field. They should be a heavy favorite to repeat, BUT.....

Strange things can happen at a sectional. It's a pressure packed, high adrenaline environment. Swimmers DQ, some RELAY TEAMS DQ. If Fishers were to DQ a relay, that could open the door for HSE or even Yorktown to make a run at the team championship.

Most critical, though, will be the lineup choices made by the coaches. The evening of February 2nd (prelims) and the afternoon of February 4th (finals) will tell the tale.

And in case you're wondering, Yorktown has NEVER won a swimming sectional--YET.

GO TIGERS!
