Earlier this month, I wrote about the individual honors being won this post-season by our Yorktown High School swimmers and divers. But now the YHS program is being lauded for its work in the classroom from top to bottom.
Each year, the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) and Kiefer name Scholar Teams from all over the United States. The awards are based on cumulative grade point averages, with Gold teams having GPA's between 3.750-4.000, Silver teams between 3.500-3.749, and Bronze teams between 3.200-3.499. There is no hiding anybody--EVERY member of a team counts.
Well, the YHS boys and girls have distinguished themselves again. BOTH teams have won Bronze level awards for the 2010-11 season. The boys cranked out a team GPA of 3.424, with the girls right behind them with a 3.400 effort.
Think back to all the nights these kids came home from two practices and a full day of school in between, and THEN finished their assignments. They bust their humps--ALL of us should be proud of the efforts made by every last one of them.
Congratulations, and well done.
GO TIGERS!
