The preliminary round of the 2011 Hamilton Southeastern Sectional is right around the corner (Thursday night). Entries were due into the IHSAA office earlier this week, and the psych sheets aren't out yet. But it's interesting to look at the Top 10 times posted this season by athletes whose teams feed into our Sectional.
Two Yorktown Tigers have the best performances in Sectional 10--junior Larah Beaver tops the potential entrants in both the 100-yard backstroke (57.61) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.63). Sophomore Jessica Extine leads the pack in the 50-yard freestyle (24.99).
Fishers appears to be the strong favorite to capture the team title next Saturday. Yorktown has an outside chance to make a run at the championship, but will probably have to settle for runner-up (IF they can top perennial power Hamilton Southeastern). But seed times don't win races, swimmers do. It should be fun to watch.
