Before we get any closer to the Sectional, let me write a few words about last Tuesday night's epic battle between arch rivals, Yorktown and Muncie Central.
The YHS girls put on a spectacular show, beating the previously undefeated Bearcats 98-88 in a hotly contested match. The Tiger boys put up a valiant fight, but fell to Central 110-73 in a show of talent and superior MC depth.
The Central parents should be applauded for the way they handled a difficult situation. They had to move their Senior Night meet, decorations, displays, etc. to Southside because of a water line problem at their own pool. That's difficult enough, but they handled it all with class--they even provided floral arrangements for the YORKTOWN seniors as part of the evening's ceremonies. They didn't have to do that, and it was a classy gesture on their part. Well done, MC!
The meet also featured one of the closest and most exciting races of the season, perhaps in all of Indiana. Yorktown senior Adam Voss came from behind in the 100-yard backstroke, using the best final turn I've ever witnessed to win by four-hundredths of a second. That performance preserved an impressive streak for Voss--he has never lost an individual event in a dual meet during his high school career! It also established a new YHS record for the event.
The Tiger boys return to action in their regular season finale Tuesday night, hosting Hamilton Heights at 5:30.
