ONE GLORIOUS SEASON, PART 2

The YHS swimmers and divers have capped off another very successful season with a delicious honors banquet in the school cafeteria. Thanks to all the booster club members who helped organize the dinner, and who also served it to the dozens of hungry athletes and parents Thursday night. You did a terrific job. Thanks also to Franky Voss for her work on the touching senior tribute video everyone enjoyed in the auditorium after dinner. They grow up so fast! ;)

Here is a list of the winners of the Tigers prestigious post-season awards:

Boys MVP--Adam Voss and Hunter Hoffman
Boys Most Improved--Michael Heavilon
Boys Mental Attitude Award--Tyler Donges

Girls MVP--Larah Beaver
Girls Most Improved--Caroline Grasso
Girls Mental Attitude Award--Kirsten Nickoli

I also want to mention the one school record I overlooked in my previous post (this is an easy one to forget, because it was a TIED record, and because it never actually showed up on the scoreboard!).

The girls 200-yard medley relay team of Caroline Grasso, Kersea Gable, Larah Beaver and Jessica Extine equalled the YHS record in that event at the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional last month. Their 1:49.91 matches the standard set by "The Special K's" in 2006--Kiley Tolbert, Kasey Tolbert, Katie Simmons and Kelsi Hall. The touchpad in Yorktown's lane malfunctioned during their race in February, leaving the girls with blank stares at the empty time on the HSE scoreboard. The two backup times were averaged to leave the girls with a share of the school record.

They're gonna blow it out of the water in a MAJOR way in 2011-12!

Another season of conference champions, sectional champions, All-State and All-American honors, and obliterated school records. Just another typical season for the talented young men and women of Yorktown.

GO TIGERS!
